Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Foot & Ankle Specialist
Dr. Monroe was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He attended the University of Washington, where he graduated with a degree in molecular biology in 1987. He earned his MD from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 1991. He completed residency training in orthopedic surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Monroe then spent an additional year completing foot and ankle fellowship training at the University of South Alabama School of Medicine.
Dr. Monroe has enjoyed living and practicing orthopedic surgery in Las Vegas with the same orthopedic group for over 20 years. During that time, he has had the unique opportunity to run a busy private practice, help manage orthopedic trauma at Nevada’s only Level 1 Trauma Center (UMC) and educate medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Monroe was a clinical assistant professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine through 2017.
He is currently the fellowship director in foot and ankle surgery at Orthopedic Specialists of Nevada. He is also a clinical assistant professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine, where he helped create the State of Nevada’s only allopathic (MD) orthopedic residency training program. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and has given many academic presentations at national and local orthopedic meetings.
Dr. Monroe specializes in orthopedic surgery and lower extremity reconstruction. This includes knee and ankle replacement, orthopedic sports medicine, trauma and fracture care, and foot and ankle surgery.
During his free time, Dr. Monroe enjoys being with his wife and three children. He also spends time participating in his favorite sports, including tennis, golf, skiing and surfing.
