Board-Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon, Hand/Upper Extremity Specialist
Dr. Wang is a board-eligible orthopedic surgeon with additional specialty training in hand and upper extremity surgery and interests in common and complex hand and upper extremity problems from the shoulder and elbow to the hand. Her surgical interests include upper extremity and hand trauma, shoulder and elbow arthroscopy and common hand conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, basilar thumb arthritis and wrist tendonitis.
Dr. Wang earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry at the University of Utah and her master’s degree in electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She worked in the research and engineering field prior to attending medical school in Philadelphia at the Drexel University College of Medicine, formerly Hahnemann University, Medical College of Pennsylvania and Women’s Medical College. She graduated in the top percentile of her medical school class and was invited to join Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. As a medical student, she received additional commendations for community service, humanities education and women’s health, and she was one of a handful of her peers to receive the Dean’s honor for medical professionalism.
Dr. Wang completed her surgical orthopedic residency in Chicago at the University of Illinois, where she was awarded a commendation for “Outstanding Performance in Hand Surgery.” Following her orthopedic residency, she completed an accredited elective specialty training program in hand surgery in the Twin Cities with the HealthPartners Regions Hospital Program in Minneapolis-St Paul, learning from top hand surgeons at the University of Minnesota, Gillette Children’s Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center and Regions Hospital. She worked under well-respected pediatric and adult faculty surgeons Dr. Ann Van Heest, Dr. Christina Ward, Dr. Deborah Bohn, Dr. Thomas Varecka, Dr. Jacqueline Geissler, Dr. Kate Pico and Dr. Ashish Mahajan.
Dr. Wang has training in classical music, learning the piano and violin at a young age. She is also an enthusiast in pistol and handgun marksmanship, earning a medal in national collegiate competition. She has a variety of personal and academic interests, including hand problems in knitting and hobbies, and sports and athlete injuries. She has experience with sports-related injuries, working the sidelines of high -school and college-level sports teams, Joffrey Ballet Company and Chicago Sky WBNA basketball. She also has interests in competitive E-sports and video game-related hand and upper extremity problems, on both PC and console platforms. She has finished Gears of War 2 on Hardcore and Halo 3 on Legendary difficulty.
She is a well-traveled resident of many beautiful states in the USA, including Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Minnesota, West Virginia, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Utah, Georgia, Pennsylvania, California and now Nevada. She has had the pleasure of attending the Minnesota State Fair several times.
